The Encore already had just about everything a vehicle owner could want, which is why the Sunrise Buick GMC team was stunned when Buick decided to make the peppy crossover even better. For 2022, the Encore gets a power boost, as well as some additional changes.
The 2022 Buick Encore might not feature the brand-new exterior look available on the model in some countries, but here in the States, this model’s updates are still impressive. According to consumer research organization Kelly Blue Book (KBB), the latest edition of the Encore is set to receive a noteworthy engine upgrade.
While the 2022 Buick Encore will still come standard with a 1.4-liter turbo engine, the feisty powertrain will now deliver 177 lb-ft of torque and 155 horsepower. This is a significant increase from the outgoing model’s 148 lb-ft torque and 138 horsepower rating.
On top of the tweaks under the hood, the Encore did also receive a number of other updates for 2022. The compact crossover adds new map pockets for additional second-row storage as well as an electric heater to help warm you up on brisk Memphis days.

If you’d like a small SUV for daily commutes and family adventures, the 2021 Buick Encore and Encore GX are two of the best options on the market. To decide which one is right for you, check out the following differences between the two models.
The 2021 Encore gives you the choice between two trims: Encore and Preferred. Front-wheel drive is standard on both, and all-wheel drive is available for the Preferred. Meanwhile, the trim levels of the 2021 Encore GX include Preferred, Select, and Essence. Front-wheel drive also comes standard on these models, but you can also upgrade to all-wheel drive for each.
No matter which trim of the Encore you choose, it features the 138-horsepower 1.4-liter Turbo engine. The Encore GX has two engine options: the 137-horsepower ECOTEC 1.2-liter Turbo and the 155-horsepower ECOTEC 1.3-liter Turbo.
The Encore is the smaller of the two SUVs, coming with 18.8 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row and 48.4 cubic feet behind the first row. The Encore GX has 23.5 cubic feet of space with the rear seats up and 50.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. This, among other reasons, is why the Encore GX has a higher price tag.
If you want a more compact and affordable model, consider the Encore. If you want more space, power, and trim choices, select the Encore GX. We proudly offer each SUV at Sunrise Buick GMC at Covington Pike.
General Motors is adding a three-cylinder engine back into its North American lineup for the first time in almost 20 years. The up-and-coming 2020 Buick Encore GX will be the earliest model to receive this engine.
The first-ever Buick Encore GX will offer both a 1.2-liter and 1.3-liter engine upon its release. Thanks to the engines’ turbochargers and advanced designs, the compact SUV will have a great combination of power and fuel efficiency.
Specifically, the engines will come with an active vacuum system and an electronically driven water pump. They will also have a lighter weight than previous versions, which should allow them to up the ante in terms of fuel economy and help you save money at the gas pump.
GM offers a 1.3-liter engine in Korea that reaches 156 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. It’s likely that the new 1.3-liter engine for the Encore GX will produce a similar amount of power.
GM has partnered with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation to work on the new Ecotec inline-three engine for Buick models in other markets. Now, it’s expected that the latest three-cylinder engines will be produced at the GM plant in Mexico.
